Threefold Lyre Ensemble

Threefold Lyre Ensemble with Saeko Shibayama is continuing for both experienced and brand-new lyre players, bringing warmth and light-filled lyre tone in this darkest time of the year!

All are welcome!  Come and play the lyre in this Advent season!

We had a great start in November! In intermediate group, we practiced music by Christian Giersch (Playing-Listening-Silence I), Channa Seidenberg (Pastorale) and Christof-Andreas Lindenberg (Autumnal Canon). This month we will play various advent music. (Our 12/16 rehearsal will be OPEN HOUSE: we won't necessarily be performance ready, but those who would like to listen to us will be welcome to attend as listeners.) In Beginners' group, we practiced the two iconic lyre exercises of "free playing" and "Strömenden Gestaltens (Flowing & Forming)," in which we explored various musical elements such as the pitch, dynamics and rhythms. We also began playing in the Dorian scale and did some listening work with intervals, which we will continue this month.

We meet in the Threefold Main House Living Room (285 Hungry Hollow Rd, Chestnut Ridge, NY)  from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

The beginners’ group is open to everyone. Please contact Saeko@lyreassociation.org by noon of  the day of the rehearsal, if you wish to join this group, so that the correct  number of instruments can be prepared each time. Donations are appreciated.
