A Summer Lyre Conference in the Czech Republic!

Jan Braunstein, Czech Republic

We welcome lyrists from throughout the world to consider joining us for a lyre conference this summer in the spectacular town of Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic from July 3rd through the 10th!  Our conference will take place in a former monastery that dates from the 14th century. The monastery just been renovated and is located in the historical heart of Český Krumlov, right next to the famed castle.

The town of Český Krumlov is a Unesco World Heritage site and is one of the gems of Europe.  http://www.czechtourism.com/c/cesky-krumlov-castle-unesco/  It would be well worth a visit just for this reason, but to have the additional opportunity to spend a week with colleagues and friends playing lyre together will be an unforgettable experience for all who are able to join us!  The nature of our available space will limit participation to only about 50 lyrists, and there are already commitments from friends in Japan, German, and Switzerland as well as from the Czech Republic, so please do not put off your decision too long!  Included among our committed participants so far are members of Martin Tobiassen’s youth lyre group from Germany, so we are hoping that we might also attract some other young players, perhaps from abroad!

Although details of the conference itself are still in the planning stages, activities will include some workshops, perhaps some master classes, and lots of playing together!  It is our intention and hope to be able to present a public concert by the end of the week.  The conference fee will be about $200, excluding meals and lodging, which should be quite reasonably priced but will need to be arranged by each individual.  Being a well-known tourist destination, lodging possibilities are plentiful but will need advanced booking due to the time of year.  More details will be forthcoming soon, but we hope that this is enough basic information to stimulate some interest from our lyre colleagues around the world!  For more information or any questions, please contact Jan Braunstein at atelier@delos.cz
