Lyre Day Greetings from Chestnut Ridge, NY
/Saeko, Sally, and Laura - Chestnut Ridge, NY, fivepekingese@gmail.com
After five months of solitary lyre playing at home, it was truly delightful to meet in person and play the lyre with Sally Willig (center) and Laura Langford Schnur (right). [Saeko Cohn, left]
Having formed our lyre trio last September, we practiced together every week until the pandemic befell. The high point of our new ensemble (with Christiane Landowne who couldn't make it on Lyre Day) was the "Festival for the Unborn" in February, in which we played Channa's "Christening Song for Ariane-Rose" and other pieces.
The "care packet" we received form LANA was marvelous. What a surprise that we had two brand-new compositions by Christof-Andreas Lindenberg and Christian Giersch! It was a pure joy to play through those some 16 pages with Sally and Laura today. We must continue to practice together and get concert ready again.
My heartfelt thanks to the LANA board and Veronika Roemer for helping us sustain our lyre LIFE throughout this uncertain time.
As there was no internet connection at the church, I was able to get only a glimpse of the Zoom conference in a Lyft car on the way home. And my five-year-old son and I continued to celebrate the World Lyre Day--Channa's birthday--at home, by singing and playing her songs on the pentatonic lyre. As one of her last Resonare students, I am forever indebted to you, Channa. -Saeko Cohn
